This course covers the main conditions which many people currently receiving counselling / psychiatric treatment are diagnosed with. This includes their causes, symptoms, the diagnostic criteria used by health professionals and the treatment approaches designed for these conditions.
The course also provides students with an understanding of the Mental Health system, the range of roles within it and important legislation relating to Mental Health, such as the Mental Capacity Act. Such legislation is clearly explained in easily understandable terms.
You will also find guidelines on the standards you should aim to achieve when working with clients; in particular ensuring that you understand the importance of listening to clients and validating their feelings.
The course encourages students to form their own opinions using factual evidence to support their answers.

Study Method
The course is designed for study by distance learning at work or at home. Students receive course manual, assignments and study guide plus tutor support by mail and email. You can start at any time and plan your studies over a period of up to one year from the time of enrolment.
Course Duration
Students may register at any time and have a full year to complete their studies. The course will take around 100 hours of study to complete.
Assessment
Each unit is followed by a written assignment (comprising a portfolio of evidence of learning), which is submitted and then marked by your tutor.
Course Endorsement
At the end of this course successful learners will be given the option to receive a Certificate of Achievement from the Quality Licence Scheme and a Learner Unit Summary (which lists the components the learner has completed as part of the course).
